Named after the stinging cells of jellyfish and other cnidarians, NEMATOCYST is an excavation of a potent force of aliveness, a venomous injection of love and freedom. A collaboration between artist/choreographer Jas Lin and writer/producer/DJ Hearthealer from Los Angeles, the performance toured throughout Asia earlier this year and will premiere in Europe at the opening night of Creamcake’s 3hd Festival.
The dance floor is a microcosm of the world. It is a place to purge choreographies of the learned body and shut down internal and external surveillance cameras that suggest there is a Proper way to move through the world. It is a practice ground for re-membering what the body has been manipulated into forgetting. It is an experimental site for exorcizing shame, and transmuting it into love and liberation.
NEMATOCYST is invested in conjuring individual transformation, embodied connection, and collective liberation on the dance floor and beyond. It's a practice and a dream inextricably tied to their belief in a free Palestine, freedom for Lebanon, and autonomy for colonized peoples everywhere.
