Sorour Darabi

Sorour Darabi is a Shiraz-born, Paris-based choreographer who explores themes of transformation and identity, nature and contemporary myth, and the interplay between context and human experience through innovative performance and contemporary dance. He was a part of the ICCD underground association before his departure for France in 2013 and holds an Ex.e.r.ce Master’s from ICI-CCN in Montpellier.

Notable projects include “Subject to Change,” which examines time and in cohabitation with the environment, an exploration of language, gender identity, and sexuality in “Farci.e,” and a reflection on collective grief in “Savušun.” In 2021, Darabi created “Mowgli,” commissioned by Kunstenfestivaldesarts, and “Natural Drama” that same year. His latest project, “Mille et Une Nuits,” was developed during a Palais de Tokyo residency and revisits the notion of “night” from the perspective of the Middle Eastern folktales’ central character, Scheherazade. Darabi also conducts workshops for advanced artists, with recent sessions at CCN-Ballet National de Marseille, and lately collaborates with Eléna Tissier, Pablo Altar, Detente, and Ange Halliwell, among others.
