Softmatter, aka Anna Pavlova, is a Berlin-based music producer, sound artist, vocalist, and DJ whose music is situated between the experimental, bass-heavy club motifs, avant-pop and ambient. Existing on the edge between the material realm and the underworld of consciousness, her experimental sonics blend dynamic rhythmic structures, intricate sound design, bass mutations and haunting soundscapes, with her captivating vocals as a central element.
Pavlova has performed at festivals and showcases, including Boiler Room and MUTEK Montreal, and shared lineups with artists such as Andy Stott, Nkisi, Bungalovv, and many more. Her strong interest in new technology led her to create spatial audio performances, including one during a mini-residency at Société des arts technologiques (SAT) in Montreal. She has released two EPs on labels Halocline Trance and Infinite Machine in 2020 and 2021, respectively, while also contributing tracks to compilations by the likes of Parkinstone and Soulfeeder.
