Natalie Paneng

Natalie Paneng is a Johannesburg-based transmedia artist using installation and digital magic to birth new worlds and surrealist narratives in which she performs. Through her work, she investigates the role of the alternative black woman within warping narratives, using herself as a medium to prompt others to explore their own internal surrealist worlds.

Paneng received her BA Honors in Dramatic Arts from the University of Witwatersrand in 2018, where she was awarded the Humanities Leon Gluckman Prize. Making use of both her self-taught digital skills and theater background to create multidisciplinary new media art, recent exhibitions include her first solo at Galerie Eigen + Art in Leipzig, Johannesburg’s Stevenson Gallery, FCA Ghana, and Galerie Körnerpark in Berlin, among others. She has also participated in digital art festivals, including MUTEK Montreal, KIKK Festival, Faku’Gesi Festival, and more, while also being awarded the Special Jury Prize for her use of creative technology at the International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam in 2023.
