Cihad Caner is an Istanbul-born, Rotterdam-based artist. His practice explores the politics of the image through the mediums of video, photography, music, motion-capture, and CGI. Caner’s research-driven practice revolves around (re-)presentation, language, marginalization and alterity. His fictional CGI characters are often multi-lingual protagonists in non-linear, metaphorical narratives that employ humor, absurdity, and poetry to critique the status quo.
Caner has recently exhibited at Akademie der Künste Berlin, The Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki, TENT and Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam and Kasseler Kunstverein, as well as Den Haag’s Nest, EYE Film Museum in Amsterdam, and İstanbul Modern, among others. He was a resident artist at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten from 2021 to 2023.
