Lu Yang


Lu Yang is a multimedia artist whose jarring and at times morbid fantasies is fed by notions of mortality, androgyny, hysteria, existentialism and spiritual neurology. Also taking inspiration and resources from anime, gaming and sci-fi subcultures, Lu explores his fantasies through mediums including 3D animation, immersive video game installation, holography, live performances, virtual reality, and computer programming. He has collaborated with scientists, psychologists, performers, designers, experimental composers, pop music producers, robotics labs, and celebrities throughout his practice.

Lu Yang has held exhibitions at UCCA and  MWoods in Beijing, Shanghai’s Cc Foundation, and Spiral inTokyo, as well as Fukuoka Museum of Asian Art, Berlin’s Société, and MOCA Cleveland. He has participated in several international biennials and triennials, such as 2021 Asia Society Triennial in New York,  Shanghai Biennial, 2018 Athens Biennale, and the 56th Venice Biennale, among others. Lu was the winner of the 8th BMW Art Journey in 2019, was included in Centre Pompidou’s Neurons, simulated intelligence exhibition in Paris the following. He also  founded the Yang Digital Incarnation project.
