Now in its sixth edition, 3hd 2020 will act as a queer-feminist biotope created by Creamcake. "UNHUMANITY" deals with a system of human and non-human forces, built around an interconnected habitat of art, music, performance, digital culture, and its relationship to the more opaque idea of Nature Herself. The festival’s program is an expression of a transition between an untenable past and an uncertain future, while recognizing natural and technological actors as equal partners, and bringing its audience closer to a new model for an interspecies community.
In an era of climate change and pandemic, 3hd 2020 will implement a decentralized and dislocated festival structure across different locations around the globe. Los Angeles, Milan, and the woods of Norway, are just some of the nodes in the neural network of the extended ECO-centers organism, branching out from its usual base in Berlin. While there will still be events at HAU Hebbel am Ufer and Gallery at Körnerpark from November 3 to 7, Creamcake will commence their multidimensional program, online and IRL, starting on August 20 and running to January next year.

In an era of extreme conditions—and in light of the current health crisis afflicting Berlin and the globe—organizers Creamcake are allowing for contingency in the planning process, while connecting both remotely and physically with its community. This year, rather than bringing the world to 3hd, we’ve decided to take 3hd to the world. Our decentralized “ECO-centers” companion program will see a number of events and performances, collaborations and partnerships, surface across oceans (quite literally illustrated by developer and designer Jon Lucas’s interactive map), starting August 15 and running into November and beyond.
The COVID-19 pandemic and its fallout has led to the dissolution of the classical performance space in 2020, while also creating space to explore and reconsider ideas of the mobility and sustainability of the festival structure in response to climate change. As an expression of a transition between an untenable past and an uncertain future, 3hd recognizes natural and technological actors as equal partners, while bringing its audience closer to a new model for an interspecies community. Where "UNHUMANITY" explores a system of human and non-human forces, built around an interconnected habitat of art, music, performance, digital culture, and its relationship to the more opaque idea of Nature Herself, “ECO-Centers” looks at ways to adapt to its changing conditions.
This companion program will see events happening around the globe—both physically and remotely. There will be collaborations with the likes of AQNB in London, Terraforma in Milan, and NAVEL in Los Angeles in the coming months. Meanwhile, this August, インフラ INFRA will present a mixtape from the audio-visual performance crossing cultural and linguistic boundaries by anime lovers DJ Paypal and Makoto Taniguchi at Yamamoto Gendai Gallery in Tokyo.
