Laurel Halo

Laurel Halo is Michigan-born artist who has been a mainstay of London’s Hyperdub label. Releasing her divisive breakout album debut, Quarantine, to critical acclaim in 2012, the producer’s heavy, mutilated strains of electronic music is shapeshifting, moody and ecstatic with influence from the sounds of Detroit, UK and Germany. Since Quarantine, Halo released two more albums—2013’s Chance of Rain for Hyperdub and In Situ via Honest Jon’s in which she routed extensively with live hardware PA.

Halo hosted a regular show on Berlin Community Radio, having originally cut her teeth as a freeform DJ on the legendary WCBN-FM station in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She has collaborated with John Cale, Julia Holter, David Borden, Daniel Wohl and Metahaven, among others, while composing the soundtrack for “Still Be Here”, a Transmediale/CTM film commission starring Japanese virtual popstar, Hatsune Miku, which debuted at Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt and was most recently shown at the Barbican Hall in London. More recent albums, Dust and Raw Silk Uncut Wood were released in 2017 and 2018.
