Miriam Yammad

Miriam Yammad is a Berlin-based artist dealing with the construction of identity. Her work examines the depictions of cultural, national, as well as gender roles, while transferring these rituals and cultural practices into her creative process.
Yammad has exhibited around the world, including Vienna, Venice and Athens, while also showing at NGBK, Between Bridges, KW Institute for Contemporary Art and elsewhere in her home city. She is also the 2015 winner of the Berlin Art Prize with her Mimesis video-series built around her research of issues around teen culture, gender, and national identity. The work gives insight into different spaces, like a Turkish barbershop or a dance studio, where fragmented representations of these places suggest the social reality of their inhabitants.
